The Pilanesberg Game Reserve is a 55,000 hectare “Big Five” Reserve situated in an extinct Volcano crater some 200 kms from Johannesburg Airport, and provides the best authentic game viewing experience within the proximity of Johannesburg.
Here the “Big Five” (Lion, Elephant, Rhino, Buffalo and Leopard) roam free in what is surely the most scenic Game Reserve in South Africa. A 200km road network criss-crosses hills and valleys, leading you past lakes and some magnificent scenery. Giraffe, Zebra, Hippo and a large variety of Antelope, as well as the comical Warthog, all roam the bushveld here. If you are a “Twitcher” you will be happy to know that it is also a bird-watcher’s paradise with over 340 species recorded.
This is the best possible wild-life day-trip in the Johannesburg area.
